This social group is for those who would like to meet people of calm and quiet personality who enjoy discussing intellectual topics in a collected manner. Smart and intuitive chicks and dudes with an open minded sense of humor of any nationality and in their 20s and 30s, or thereabout, are highly encouraged to join.
The word 'social' often conjures others words like extroverted, loud, busy, popular for which there are many meetup groups already filling this role. As such, this group aims to attract the other side of the spectrum in personalities that, quite honestly, don't really have many outlets to socialize. Introverted, bookworm, self-concious, shy, smart, witty, independent, and intelligent are not ugly words around here. We like those people so please attend. :)
Feel free to talk about all topics, ideas, concepts and theories in areas such as, but not limited to, science, philosophy, technology, psychology, law, medicine and current events, but keep in mind that it is a social group and some events may be void of intellectual discussion unless you bring it up. Furthermore, this group is not for overly sensitive people who over-analyze wording such as our use of the word 'chicks' while ignor
ing the intent and context of such light-hearted descriptions or discussions. Jokes remain as such if that's how they are intended regardless if there's some truth to them. It's the little bit of truth that makes them humorous but there's no need to be ugly either, so keep that in mind. Also, if there's 10 members at a meetup and you talk 90% of the time, you aren't calm or quiet nor giving other members the opportunity to discuss their opinions on the matter. That said, sometimes it's appropriate to dominate a conversation (depending on the event) and we're not tyrants nor collecting data for future retaliation... We're just saying that the quiet ones are 'people' too ;). A healthy sense of humor and open mindedness is required. Regardless of what popular culture thinks is 'polite', we won't censor discussions as long as they are discussed in a fair manner. Small and flexible events are prefered. We prefer smaller gatherings because large events don't attract calm and quiet conversations or environments. It's the small gatherings that let us get beyond the 'What do you do?' conversation starters as our members prefer deeper discussions. Um, am I right?
So, if you enjoy conversations with calm and quiet personalities in their 20s and 30s feel free to drop by one of our events or host one of your own. We also encourage members to host their own events to mix things up a bit. Event hosts can host as per their judgement as long as it's reasonably within the description of the group set forth here. Feel free to suggest event ideas and we'll make you an assistant.
